WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven (R-ND), chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, today announced the committee has passed H.R. 1491, the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Land Affirmation Act of 2017.
“This legislation would reaffirm the Department of the Interior’s decision to take land into trust in California for the benefit of the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians,” said Hoeven.
The legislation, sponsored by Representative Doug LaMalfa (R-CA-1), received a committee legislative hearing on April 27, 2018.
On June 4, 2018, Senators Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris (D-CA) requested the committee hold a business meeting to advance H.R. 1491. The bill will now go to the full Senate for consideration.
