WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven (R-ND), chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, today announced the committee’s passage of S. 1223, the Klamath Tribe Judgment Fund Repeal Act.
The bill is sponsored by Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Ron Wyden (D-OR).
“This legislation is designed to promote the Klamath Tribe’s ability to exercise its sovereign authority and discretion over tribal funds which are currently held in the U.S. Treasury, to the credit of the tribe,” said Hoeven.
The committee held a legislative hearing on July 12, 2017. The bill, as amended, passed committee unanimously.
