BY SENATOR BYRON DORGAN

“Today’s confirmation of Carl Artman as Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs is a significant step forward. It has been more than two full years that this position has been vacant, and our responsibility to address the bona fide crises in education, housing and health care in Indian Country have been too long ignored.
“Mr. Artman is clearly qualified for the job and I look forward to working with him to address the challenges that face our American Indian communities. I’m proud that our committee was able to move this nomination forward in this new Congress in a timely manner.
